Not too many comic strip updates like this one!

This is some VERY special news! Our dear friends from Moncton have finally been granted permanent residence in Canada!!

In 2011, while living in Moncton, our neighbours and dear friends, The Maengs, found out that their family was being deported back to South Korea because of their young son's autism. Thanks to the Times & Transcript's Eric Lewis, the news went public on the front page on a Saturday morning.

As part of the reaction to losing part of our community, I created a comic strip tribute to the Maengs.  Thanks to social media, it circulated quickly, and I'm told that it helped to bring attention to the Maengs' plight.

CONGRATULATIONS, MAENG FAMILY!

SLAUGHTERHOUSE SLOUGH: CRAYFISH CHRONICLES

This week's comic was a long time coming! A lot of information I had uncovered was conflicting, and I finally was able to confirm some of the finer points with a prof at the U of L.  This does not mean he is responsible for anything I got horribly wrong, that is all my fault.

SLAUGHTERHOUSE SLOUGH GOES TO PALOOKAVILLE

SLAUGHTERHOUSE SLOUGH NEWS:

The good folks at the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery have graciously invited me to be their very first ever Cartoonist-in-Residency (or Social Media something or other, whatever, they'll announce it all soon enough) in conjunction with the SETH: DOMINION exhibition, running from November 7, 2014 to January 15, 2015.

Those who know me well have probably suffered through my rambling on about the importance of Seth's comic and illustration work on my own inky adventures, not to mention his status as one of the most important Canadian cartoonists working today.

The SETH: DOMINION exhibit will feature his sketchbooks and other 2-D work, but most spectacularly, it will be home to Seth's cardboard city of Dominion.  This means that I will be working, drawing and creating comics surrounded by Seth's little corrugated creations as well as interacting with everyone who comes into the space while I am present in the gallery.

More details be available before long, but in the meantime, be sure to watch my TWITTER for updates.

Some important dates:

NOVEMBER 6: Seth & curator, Andrew Hunter, will be giving a talk at the Penny House

NOVEMBER 7: Opening reception and exhibit tour with Seth & Andrew Hunter.

NOVEMBER 20: DRAWING BAR (Bring your sketchbook into the gallery!)

NOVEMBER 26: Film screening: SETH'S DOMINION by Luc Chamberland (NFB)

NOVEMBER 27: A SPECIAL EDITION OF THE LETHBRIDGE DRINK & DRAW

DECEMBER 6: CARTOONING & COMICS WORKSHOP
