Rocket Smog
Poster for the latest Lorrie Matheson incarnation...Rocket Smog! I wonder if people are picking band names based solely on myspace name-availability...

Golden Ruckus
FFWD article outlining some of the movie vs. book vs. author facts surrounding the fuss about "The Golden Compass", apparently stinking up theatres near you. So often it seems a movie will around patting itelf on the back for being controversial (regardless of which side of the argument) and after all the fuss is said and done, turns out to not be a very good movie anyways.

Finished inks for an educational tool for a Canadian military museum's propaganda literacy program. Based on "The Great Whites": paper-ban era WW2 comics in Canada...especially Leo Bachle's over-the-top patriotic bare-knuckle adventures of Johnny Canuck.
I also love the line and brushwork in Nelvana of the North, and oddities like the Penguin (a crime-fighting /zoot-suit wearing detective in a penguin mask...for some reason).
Dialogue and text will be added by the program participants.
Sketches from this project can be seen on my sketchblog.

FFWD article on the historical designation of the Rideau Canal. I found the sad ending to the Canal's (and Ottawa's) British creator rather amusing, as well as the decidely NON-military role the Canal plays in daily Ottawa life. The numerous dead Irish & French-Canadian labourers likely did not really find him tragically amusing, but it made for a good drawing.

Rings, Roars & Roustabouts
A great title for a kids' play being put on by Wagonstage.
The client had been looking for something in the spirit of vintage turn-of-the-century circus posters. Those posters are a little stiff and awkward for a warm and friendly kids poster, so I energized the composition a little. I sure like that tight-rope walking elephant...hee hee...

Shavuot Maze
Holiday game for Tzivos Hashem's KIDS Magazine in New York for the Shavuot holiday. A lot of work to layout but fun to fill with details and colour. 49 boxes were needed for the 49 days of the holiday, but I felt mazes with deadends and wrong-ways are a bit negative...which this holiday is not. I've designed the maze to use all 49 boxes (to get the flower bunches, of course!) and still be able to get back on track to the finish line!
Here's a close-up:

Band names don't get much better than this. For those of you who aren't complete nerds, "Chimpan A to Chimpan Z" is a song lyric from the Simpsons episode featuring "Planet of the Apes: The Musical!". Planet of the Apes, of course, ends with Charleton Heston confronted by a Statue of Liberty half buried in the beach.
