The Ramblin' Ambassadors Poster

Inspired in part by The Ramblin' Ambassadors' post-Huevos Rancheros instrumental rock-noodling and in part by my fixation on this little artefact.

Eight Emotional Caricatures

Click on images for larger picture.

An opportunity to create some fun images for a farewell to an agricultural group's outgoing president. Some of the emotions are inside jokes...but I was told this gentleman wears his emotions on his sleeve, so I didn't feel too bad going over the top. I enjoyed incorporating the beltbuckles as well as furthering my experimentations in background.

Thank you to Rose, Holly and Nigel...I understand that you spoke very highly of me! I really appreciate it...it's all who you know...

Bond Schmond

Wow. George Lazenby is quite the looker...I haven't enjoyed drawing someone that much in some time...ha! Maybe that's the magic the Bond franchise needs...take a really gorky looking actor and make them uber-cool! I dunno...

The Perceptionists Poster

Def Jux heavy-hitters The Perceptionists are coming to Calgary...and I was tapped to do the poster. DJ Cosm opens the show, he hosts a great radio show on CJSW after an afternoon of reggae...check him out.

BOOMTOWN

An interesting article by Gillian Steward on the Alberta government's responsibility for the working conditions of labourers in Alberta's current economy.

Bowie at the Movies

An interesting subject...portraying David Bowie's many odd film roles. I enjoyed working from the photos, although Mr. Bowie has some very strange facial anatomy. A lot of sketch paper is getting recycled. I've looked online, and it doesn't look like other cartoonists/caricaturists haven't had much better success...from left to right: The Goblin King/Labyrinth (top), Andy Warhol/Basquiat, the alien guy/The Man Who Fell to Earth, Nikola Tesla/The Prestige and Pontius Pilate/The Last Temptation of Christ.

Thanks to Jesse and Beatroute.

Broken City Poster

Five Star Homeless is a bluegrass/rockabilly-ish country band...this was inspired by a goofy animation on their website of a sheriff's star on fire. This poster is not inked with crowquill pens as usual, but is my first poster drawn completely with markers and brush pens while sitting in a parked car (long story).

Science Matters

Illustration for a FFWD Weekly article written by David Suzuki, outlining federal Environmental Minister Rona Ambrose's delivery of a death sentence for the last 17 (17??) spotted owls in Canada.

It took a lot of sketches before I settled on this depressing little grouping of owls. Owls are usually great fun to draw, but not today.

Kid Koala poster

We're nothing but the nerds they say we are...

Kid Koala live at Broken City in Calgary in April 2006. I was there to proudly watch my posters stolen off of every wall in the club before Kid Koala even took the stage. I'll take that as a compliment!
